My path as an author began with short stories. I think most authors do that, it’s kind of like a training ground. I wrote probably around ten stories over a year or two, before I started focusing on novels. I shopped ‘em around and had a few published. They shouldn’t have been; they were horrible. Like seriously bad.
I had a conversation with a fan of mine, and she said it might be a good idea to put some of the stories out. I thought about it, read some of Konrath, and decided I might as well do it now. I mean, I have all these grand stories I wrote just waiting on someone to read them.
Jesus, I was a horrible writer. It took me 2-3 hours to edit a 5,000 word story; the underlying tale is a good one, but the writing made me want to shove my pen through my eye. Don’t worry, I fixed everything so that it doesn’t sound like a chimp wrote it. Promise.
Anyways, the story is out on Kindle for 99 cents! It’s titled God’s Will, and honestly, it’s the most brutal thing I’ve ever written. Right now it has two ratings, both of them are five stars. Give it a look if you’re interested in a pretty gruesome short, horror story.
Congratulations David on a new work finding an audience. How do you promote your work? I would like to start laucnhing some of mine as well.
Promotion, for me, is a lot of leg work. Reading about what others do, talking to as many people as possible, garnering reviews (not that profitable as far as I can tell), etc. Let me know anyway I can help you.
